Flints

shapely like
the bones of ancient oxen

Some no bigger than a thumb but
some more like the ball and socket
of a hip , sculpted
  lumps found
buried in their bed
 of snowy chalk

 split they look like
gelatine but they take edges
hard as shark hearts
